Wake up the Hunter.....

Let your dog find birds and birds only!!!!

Hunt always straight into the wind don't worry about the quartering yet.

Stop when your dog looses interest.

Let him chase the birds in the beginning.

Don't stimulate him to point to young let him flush birds till he knows exactly where they are!

Don't serve the dog unless you are 100% sure that he "has" them

Try to avoid contact with rabbits.

If he finds, don't panic: it helps you to develop his hunting instincts.

Use the dummy-electric collar.

 

Items to train:

Wind and the connection of the handlers position

Quartering

Pointing

Steadiness

Respect of hare

Don't try to train all of these items in one session!!!

    wind...

we can hunt:

straight into the wind

down wind

side wind

play with the wind:

let the dog be creative

let the dog verify scents

but help him to forget no corner of the field

 

Note: in field trials pointing dogs never hunt down wind!
